Bench-Bar Committee Courtroom Chat Series– Litigating Polarizing Cases (With Reception for Attendees to Follow)

Polarizing cases grab the attention of everyone, but what are the concerns for judges and lawyers who are trying them? The Bench-Bar Committee invites you to come listen to a distinguished panel which includes Denver District Court Judges Karen Brody, Kandace Gerdes, and Sarah Wallace, Adams County Court Judge Marques Ivey, and attorneys David Bellar and Megan Downing, both of Recht Kornfeld PC, who will discuss what is a polarizing case and the unique challenges facing judges and lawyers in such case. These challenges include determining the measures necessary to ensure the safety of the judge, attorneys, jurors, and witnesses involved in the case, and addressing ethical issues which media coverage and publicity may create. After brief presentations from each panelist, those in attendance will be encouraged to ask questions and participate in a dialogue with the panel in a casual “roundtable” format which is customary in all the Committee’s programs. Following the program, all are invited to an informal reception with food and refreshments to mingle with fellow attendees, make new acquaintances, renew old ones, and celebrate reaching the middle of the week!
