The DBA Access to Justice Committee and the Public Legal Education Department would like to thank you for volunteering your time to our programs. ***Professionalism in the Courtroom: What Judges Expect from Lawyers***
The DBA Bench-Bar Committee cordially invites you to attend “Professionalism in the Courtroom: What Judges Expect from Lawyers.” When: Thursday, Sept. 20, noon–1:45 p.m., Where: Denver City & County Building Courtroom 1, 1435 Bannock St., Denver, Colorado. *** Law Suit Days***
The annual “Law Suit Days” are Oct. 11-12. Members of the Young Lawyers Division will be taking donations on the steps of the City and County Building, 1437 Bannock St., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day. Donate gently used professional clothing to help low-income and unemployed community members dress-to-impress for job interviews. Contact Greg Daniels at gdaniels@hmflaw.com with any questions.
*** Legal Night ***
Legal Night is a program that provides free legal and referral information to residents in the community regarding issues of immigration, employment, housing, consumer, family law, and various other legal issues. It is held at Mi Casa Resource Center for Women (360 Acoma Street) on the third Tuesday of every month from 5:30 to 8 p.m. and at Centro San Juan Diego (2830 Lawrence Street) on the first Wednesday of every month from 5:30 to 8 p.m. No experience is necessary and dinner is provided. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE LEGAL NIGHT AT CENTRO SAN JUAN DIEGO HAS A STRONG NEED FOR IMMIGATION ATTORNEYS. *** Lawline 9- Volunteers Needed – Put Your Law Degree to Good Use ***
Lawline 9 is an ask-a-lawyer program designed to provide legal information on options based on brief descriptions of legal issues. Attorneys also offer suggestions where the individual caller may go for legal assistance. Caller questions generally touch all areas of law. Many times, if the attorney volunteer cannot answer the question posed, someone else volunteering at the same time can offer a suggestion, or the volunteer can simply suggest that the caller attempt to speak to someone else during an evening Lawline 9, when specific topics are addressed.
We need volunteers for the second Thursday of each month, specifically October 11, November 8 and December 13. The program runs from from 5:30 - 7:30 a.m.. Please email mseck@cobar.org to volunteer for any of these dates.
YLD Lawline 9 is designed to aid understanding of legal issues, NOT to provide specific legal advice for individual circumstances. Attorney volunteers do not give out personal contact information and are asked not to use their full name. Volunteer attorneys simply offer free legal information to callers.
***COURT ORIENTATION***
The DBA-YLD will host its annual COURT ORIENTATION in November. This unique program is designed especially for newly admitted attorneys and attorneys who are new to the Denver area. Judges, law clerks, and administrators from the Denver courts will be on hand to provide their insights as well as answer your all of your questions. Participants will learn valuable information about the Denver courts and receive 7 CLE credits. Look for more information in the next issue of the DBA-YLD newsletter!
