Law Student Chronicles: A Ten-Year Hiatus

Yet, when I think back on all of the choices, experiences, and events that brought me to Colorado Law last fall, I realize that it’s a question that is almost impossible to distill into an appropriately brief answer. June Coffee Talk: Colorado Special Education Law—Thursday, June 26
The presentation will provide information on The Rules for Administration of The Protection of Persons from Restraint Act created by the Colorado Department of Education. We will discuss state seclusion and restraint laws and policies for schools and where Colorado stands nationally. We will also discuss some case examples and the results of The Legal Center’s project and data collection around restraint and seclusion in Colorado public schools. One general CLE credit applied for. Coffee Talk programs are the fourth Thursday of the month from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. at the DBA offices. RSVP online, email or call 303-860-1115, ext. 727.

The 2014 honorees are: Judge Richard L. Gabriel, Award of Merit; Ilene Lin Bloom, Volunteer Lawyer of the Year; Margrit Parker, Young Lawyer of the Year; and Judge Dennis A. DBA YLD Members—Get Involved with Legal Nights
Denver Legal Night is an open house where volunteer attorneys provide free legal and referral information to people who cannot afford legal services. Areas of law addressed commonly include Immigration, Family, Criminal, Housing, Consumer and bankruptcy, and Employment.

New Clinic on Collecting Child Support
The DBA Access to Justice Committee will be providing a training for the presenters of the newly created “How to Collect Child Support” public clinic. This clinic is a great way to get involved with the Denver community, gather information, and teach basic techniques for collecting support. The training will take place on June 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at DBA offices. One CLE credit has been applied for. Contact Meghan Bush to register.

DBA Waterman Fund Seeks Applicants for Administrators—deadline to apply is Friday, June 27
The DBA Waterman Trust Fund is seeking two attorneys to serve as a DBA administrators to assist in managing the fund. The fund was established to assist members of the bar who are “aged, infirmed, or otherwise incapacitated” and financially needy. Click here for more information on the Waterman Fund.
