Join the YLD Council—Applications Due Friday, April 25

The DBA YLD is currently seeking new board members for the Executive Council. The Council consists of 11 members who help serve the Denver legal community and its members.

Council members organize networking events, CLE's and other opportunities for young lawyers. This includes developing new ideas, marketing and communicating, coordinating with other bar sections, promoting the YLD and assisting other young attorneys in our community. Council members are required to attend monthly board meetings and commit to a three-year term.

Interested persons should submit their current resume and a letter of interest detailing their relevant experience and characteristics including why these qualities would make them a valuable addition to the Board.

Submit your resume and letter of interest to Matthew Larson and Heather Clark by Friday, April 25.

April Barristers After Hours and the CBA Solo Small Firm Section—Thursday, April 17
Join the DBA and CBA Solo Small Firm Section for Barristers After Hours at Cholon, 1555 Blake Street, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The DBA Community Action Network will also be there to give a short presentation on the work of their committee. Movie Night: “Dazed and Confused”—Monday, April 21
CLE on New Marijuana Laws and Regulations in Colorado

DBA YLD will conduct a one hour CLE related to new marijuana laws and regulations in Colorado led by Troy Rackham and Maureen (“Mo”) Weiland from Fennemore Craig. A showing of the movie “Dazed and Confused” will follow the presentation. The event starts at 5:30 p.m. with wine, beer, pizza and networking. Join the DBA Young Lawyers Division for a fun and informative movie night at the DBA CLE offices, 1900 Grant St., third floor. One ethics CLE credit has been applied for. April Coffee Talk: Bankruptcy Basics, Nuances, and Red Flags for Beginners—Thursday, April 24
This one hour program covers bankruptcy fundamentals for practitioners representing either the debtor or creditors, including chapter choice and eligibility requirements, property of the estate, the role of the trustee, filing proofs of claim, the automatic stay, and the bankruptcy discharge. The program also describes red flags for the young practitioner and common issues resulting in litigation within a bankruptcy case such as non-dischargeable debt and avoidance actions. David M. 9th Annual Attorneys' Night Out—Thursday, May 15
Join the DBA YLD as it celebrates The Legal Center's mission of protecting the rights of people with disabilities and older people in Colorado. The event includes a silent auction, live auction and a drawing for an iPad. The event will be held at the Blake Street Tavern from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $25 prior to the event and $35 at the door. Go to thelegalcenter.org to purchase tickets. Denver Legal Night is an open house where volunteer attorneys provide free legal and referral information to people who cannot afford legal services. Areas of law addressed commonly include Immigration, Family, Criminal, Housing, Consumer and bankruptcy, and Employment.

15th Annual Roll Out the Barrels Food Drive—April 21 to May 2
Sign up your office as a donation location by Friday, April 18, to continue to fight hunger and feed hope in 2014. The food drive runsfrom April 21 to May 2 and benefits Metro CareRing, a nonprofit hunger relief organization that operates one of the largest food pantries in Denver. Questions? Email Kate Schuster.
Play Softball in the Lawyers’ League—It’s really a lot of fun
The headline pretty much says it all. Lawyers’ League softball is just plain fun. You get out of the office on a Saturday morning and enjoy the beautiful outdoors. It’s co-ed. There are no umpires, so balls and strikes are not called and it’s inexpensive. You don’t even have to be a lawyer-staff, family, friends, clients, and relative strangers are all welcome. Games are Saturdays at 11 a.m. from June through early at August at Cranmer (Sundial) Park. Interested captains should email Jack Tanner or call 303-894-4495.

DBA Member Spinning Classes at the Downtown YMCA
Join us for weekly spinning classes at The Gym Uptown, 1900 Grant St., Ste. 100, from 7 to 8 a.m. The cost to attend is $5. Full use of the facilities is available to attendees.
