DBA YLD Upcoming Events and Programs
Nominate a Friend or Colleague for the DBA Awards by Monday, Feb. 3
The DBA Awards Committee needs your nomination for its annual awards: DBA Award of Merit, DBA Young Lawyer of the Year, DBA Volunteer of the Year, Judicial Excellence, Education in the Legal System and Outstanding Programs or Projects. Nominate an attorney by submitting a statement of why the nominee deserves the honor. The statement need not be a complete essay; just provide a few salient points and the committee will follow up with the nominator and nominee for complete details. You can complete and submit a nomination form online or send your nomination by email to Heather Clark. The committee will consider involvement with the DBA, community contributions outside the bar associations, career history and accomplishments. The deadline for nominations is Monday, Feb. 3.
Movie Night CLE: “Intolerable Cruelty”— Thursday, Feb. 13
DBA YLD will be conducting a CLE related to the movie, “Intolerable Cruelty” from starting at 5:30 p.m. with wine, beer, pizza and networking. The CLE presentation will focus on divorce law. Join the DBA Young Lawyers Division for a fun and informative movie night at the DBA CLE offices, 1900 Grant St., third floor. One general CLE applied for. Barristers After Hours and the CBA Litigation Section at the Wynkoop Brewery—Thursday, Feb. 20

Practice Area Preview: Tax Law—Tuesday, Feb. 25
Join the DBA YLD and the CBA Tax Law Section on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at Rock Bottom Brewery for an informal discussion and networking event for young lawyers led by young lawyers. Speakers will discuss how they got into the field of tax law and what it is like to practice in that area. Come learn about a new field of law and bring your questions! February Coffee Talk: Mediation Basics: Learn to be Effective in Mediation—Thursday, Feb. 27
Learn how to choose the mediator best for your client and his or her situation. Teddi Ann Barry also discuss how to best prepare for mediation and focus on the fix instead of the fight. Barry is a Family Law attorney and mediator with offices in Denver and Avon. With the tagline of Saving Children and Restructuring Families, Barry’s practice is focused on resolution and finding ways to keep her clients out of court—successful mediation is key. Denver Legal Night is an open house where volunteer attorneys provide free legal and referral information to people who cannot afford legal services. Areas of law addressed commonly include Immigration, Family, Criminal, Housing, Consumer and bankruptcy, and Employment.

Denver Public Schools Adult Self-Sufficiency Center: Volunteers Needed
The Mile High United Way, Denver Public Schools and DBA are collaborating to implement adult self-sufficiency service programs for the DPS community. The DBA will provide monthly legal clinics in a variety of areas such as family law, immigration, consumer rights, housing and tenant rights. We are looking for attorneys to volunteer to speak in a classroom setting in each topic area. The time commitment for this monthly legal clinic is 1.5 hours. Materials are provided. Please respond to Meghan Bush if you are interested in this new and exciting volunteer opportunity.
