Council Spotlight: Sarah Gibson
Sarah Gibson is a Hearings Officer with the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment. She previously clerked at the Oregon Department of Justice and the Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office before returning home to Colorado after law school. Emergency Unemployment Compensation
On December 28, 2013, about 1.3 million unemployed people lost federal unemployment benefits. Congress is currently on break after letting a program expire that pays federal benefits to unemployed Americans when their state benefits run out. Read more…

Barristers After Hours and Wheels of Justice at The Corner Office—Thursday, Jan. 16
The DBA and CBA Young Lawyers Division and the Wheels of Justice cycling team invite everyone to attend Barristers After Hours, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 16 at The Corner Office. Wheels of Justice team leaders will present a brief overview of the team and the Courage Classic bike tour for those interested. Free drinks and appetizers will be provided. January Coffee Talk: Deposition Techniques in High Profile Cases—Thursday, Jan. 23
John Lee and Kevin McReynolds from the Colorado Attorney General’s Office will discuss deposition techniques and provide examples of how they’ve used the resulting evidence in important cases. You will learn how to prepare for depositions, structure your questioning, depose different types of witnesses, and use deposition testimony to advance your case. One general CLE credit is available. Movie Night CLE: “Intolerable Cruelty”— Thursday, Feb. 13
DBA YLD will be conducting a CLE related to the movie, “Intolerable Cruelty” from starting at 5:30 p.m. with wine, beer, pizza and networking. The CLE presentation will focus on divorce law. Join the DBA Young Lawyers Division for a fun and informative movie night at the DBA CLE offices, 1900 Grant St., third floor. One general CLE applied for. Practice Area Preview: Tax Law—Tuesday, Feb. 25
Save the date to join DBA Young Lawyers Division on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at a location yet to be determined for an informal discussion and networking event for young lawyers led by young lawyers. Speakers will discuss how they got into the field of tax law and what it is like to practice in that area. Come learn about a new field of law and bring your questions! DBA YLD Members—Get Involved with Legal Nights
Denver Legal Night is an open house where volunteer attorneys provide free legal and referral information to people who cannot afford legal services. Areas of law addressed commonly include Immigration, Family, Criminal, Housing, Consumer and bankruptcy, and Employment.

Volunteer for Collections and Small Claims Clinics
The DBA Access to Justice Committee will be providing two trainings for the Collections and Small Claims clinics. These clinics are a great way to get involved with the Denver community and provide solid information and knowledge on the basics of the collection and small claims processes. Collections Clinic training will be on Feb. 21 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at CBA-CLE 3rd floor offices, 1900 Grant St. Small Claims Clinic Training will be on Feb. 28 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the DBA, 1900 Grant St., 9th floor. Denver Law CDO Mock Interview Day—Volunteer Attorneys Needed
The University of Denver Sturm College of Law Office of Career Development & Opportunities is hosting a Mock Interview Day on Thursday, Jan. 30. We are seeking volunteer attorneys to interview law students at one of three times on this day. Your investment of time and energy in this program will assist us in equipping our students with the skills necessary to compete in today’s legal job market. Volunteer interviewers may sign up for one of the following two-hour time periods: 8:00– 10:00 a.m., Noon–2:00 p.m., 4:00–6:00 p.m. Each volunteer interviewer will meet with four students at 30-minute intervals. We anticipate each interview will take approximately 20–25 minutes, allowing five to ten minutes for a personal critique and discussion of the student’s performance and ways he/she might improve. If you are available to volunteer as a mock interviewer on Jan. 30, please RSVP to CDO Associate Director Gayle Keahey by January 17.

An Introduction to Legal Project Management—Tuesday, Jan. 21 at noon
With the ever-increasing cost pressures on corporate law departments, effective legal project management has become a must for both in-house and law firm attorneys. This webinar will focus on how to use legal project management to benefit both clients and their counsel and make delivery of legal services more effective and efficient. Tuesday, Jan. 21, from noon to 1:30 p.m., as a webinar or at the CBA-CLE offices, 1900 Grant St., 3rd floor. $10 for members, $50 for non members, lunch is included for those attending the live program. Business Law Section New Lawyers Happy Hour—Thursday, Jan. 30
The CBA Business Law Section New Lawyers Subsection, along with the Bankruptcy and Trust & Estate Subsections, invite Young Lawyers interested in business law to attend a happy hour. DBA Member Spinning Classes at the Downtown YMCA
Join us for weekly spinning classes on Thursdays, from 7 to 8 a.m. This week’s class will be held at the downtown YMCA. Beginning Thursday, Jan. 23, classes will be held at The GYM Uptown, on the first floor of the DBA offices at 1900 Grant Street. Price includes full use of the facilities for the day. Space in the class is limited, so RSVP early to secure your bike seat by clicking on a link below.

Yoga @ the Bar—Fridays at 7 a.m.
