As a member of the CBA, you have free access to Casemaker, a legal research tool similar to West and Lexis. Casemaker also offers many additional services to help make your legal researching a little bit easier which the CBA is now offering its members free of charge.

CiteCheck is a Casemaker service that allows users to verify that the cases cited in their briefs, pleadings, motions, or other legal documents are still good law. An attorney or paralegal can upload a document into CiteCheck and Casemaker will extract and process all of the legal citations (in Blue Book form) through their authoritative CaseCheck+ service. In a matter of moments (usually in 90 seconds), you will receive a report on the status of each legal citation in your document.

If the case is still good law, it will receive a greenü(check mark). If the case is challenged in any way, the case will receive a red “X.” You can check your own legal documents before you submit them to the court or you can even check the documents submitted by opposing counsel to determine whether the cases they’ve cited are still good law.

We believe this valuable tool will assist our members in ensuring the quality and accuracy of their legal citations.

CaseCheck+ is Casemaker’s citator system that rivals West and Lexis. You will know instantly if the case you’re reading is still good law. CaseCheck+ validates your research and identifies whether or not your case law citations are still good law.

CaseCheck+ returns both positive and negative treatments instantly as you research. Check out the cases with negative treatment and quickly review the citation history for both state and federal cases. If your case is still good law, you will see a green thumbs up next to the case name. If your case has any sort of negative treatment, a red thumbs down that will appear next to the case name.
