Paying it Forward for Member Appreciation Week—More Than $3,000 Raised for MVL
During last week’s Member Appreciation Week, the DBA focused on our members who pay it forward by offering their time and services to their colleagues and to their community. This year, we entered all of our volunteers into a drawing for the grand prize: a 32 GB iPad. This year’s winner is Joan Smith, a Doing Your Own Divorce legal clinic instructor. Congratulations to Smith and to all of the other winners of door prizes at events throughout last week! Thank you to all of our members who participated in free CLEs and joined us for great events. We hope to see you again next year! In addition to the great educational and networking opportunities, the DBA also collected donations for its own Metro Volunteer Lawyers. Members generously gave $3,125 to support civil legal services in the metro area. Thank you all for paying it forward and supporting your community! Support MVL year-round through the DBA’s $25K for 25 years giving campaign. Click here to donate.
CAN Committee Day of Service—Tuesday, June 18
The Denver Bar Association Community Action Network Committee will participate in a day of service on Tuesday, June 18, at Project Angel Heart and Metro CareRing in honor of late CAN committee member Sarah Rector, who passed away in March of this year following a brief illness. Rector was passionate about volunteering in the community and also was a member of the Denver Mile High Rotary Club. CAN encourages the DBA membership to find a way to fit community service into your month, whether through organized volunteering or otherwise, as a reminder that we can reach beyond the legal community to the Denver community at large and provide valuable assistance to those in need.

The Business of Marijuana—Accounting, Tax and Legal Issues After Amendment 64
on Thursday, July 18

Last November, Colorado voters passed Amendment 64, which makes the personal, non-medical use, possession, and limited home-growing of marijuana legal under Colorado law for adults 21 and older. The Amendment provides for the regulation of marijuana like alcohol, and allows for the lawful operation of marijuana-related facilities. This seminar will review the tax, accounting, and legal implications for people involved in marijuana-related businesses in Colorado. Find out more!
