Kevin McReynolds is an Assistant Attorney General in Colorado’s criminal appellate division. Before this, he clerked for a federal trial judge and spent five years in private practice splitting his time between a national firm in Los Angeles and a small firm in Denver. January Coffee Talk: Deposition Techniques in High Profile Cases—Thursday, Jan. 23
John Lee and Kevin McReynolds from the Colorado Attorney General’s Office will discuss deposition techniques and provide examples of how they’ve used the resulting evidence in important cases. You will learn how to prepare for depositions, structure your questioning, depose different types of witnesses, and use deposition testimony to advance your case. One general CLE credit is available. Spinning CLE: Dealing with the Rambo Lawyer—Thursday, Dec. 5
Join the DBA Fit to Practice Task Force for their wildly popular spinning CLE class at the downtown YMCA on Thursday, Dec. 5, from 7 to 8 a.m. Slip into your workout gear and get ready to work your legs while John Baker works your brain! Baker will discuss dealing with the “Rambo” attorney without becoming one as you sweat away on your stationary bike. This is a members-only event, and the cost to attend is $15. One ethics credit has been applied for. Bench-Bar Event: Learn the Nuts and Bolts of Protective Orders and Restraining Orders—Thursday, Dec. 5
Take advantage of this unique opportunity to discuss all you have ever wanted to know about protective orders and restraining orders in Colorado. Denver District Court Judge Elizabeth Starrs, County Court Magistrate Beth Faragher, and attorney Karen Steinhauser will discuss and answer questions about their own experiences, discuss the fundamentals and latest issues and topics in these areas, and provide practice tips in Denver District Court and county courts. Join us on Thursday, Dec. 5 from noon until 1:30 p.m. in the Jury Assembly room on the fourth floor of the City and County Building. $15 for DBA Members, $25 for non-DBA Members, including lunch. Saving Money, Conserving Resources, and Exceeding Our Clients’ Expectations—Thursday, Dec. 12
Join us for a half-day presentation about the CBA’s Environmental Sustainability Program on Thursday, Dec. 12, beginning at 11 a.m. Hear from experts how to institute a paperless office, use energy and water more wisely, and track your energy use. Throughout the program, you will learn why a sustainable law practice is not only good for the environment, but also professionally responsible, and economically efficient. “How to Green a Law Firm” is being held at the new Ralph L. Carr Judicial Center, a LEED Gold-certified building. There is an optional tour of the building’s green features before the CLE. Click here to register.

Join us for weekly spinning classes at the downtown YMCA from 7 to 8 a.m. The cost to attend is $10 and includes full use of the facilities for the day. Space in the class is limited, so RSVP early to secure your seat by clicking on a link below.

 

Yoga @ the Bar—Fridays at 7 a.m.
Join us on Fridays at the DBA offices from 7 to 8 a.m. for free yoga. The instructor will be there beginning at 6:45 a.m. for those who want to begin, or end, earlier. DBA Health Fair—Thursday, Jan. 9
Get “fit to practice” for the New Year! The DBA Fit to Practice Task Force will host a Health Fair on Thursday, Jan. 9, at the DBA offices, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. It will include health screening services, a nutritional expert, an acupuncturist, and a massage therapist—as well as healthy food and beverages. This is the perfect place to jump-start your 2014 fitness goals and gear up for the DBA’s Fitness Challenge supporting the Sean May Memorial Run, the Colfax Marathon team supporting the Legal Center, and Wheels of Justice Courage Classic. Denver Legal Night is an open house where volunteer attorneys provide free legal and referral information to people who cannot afford legal services. Areas of law addressed commonly include Immigration, Family, Criminal, Housing, Consumer and bankruptcy, and Employment.
