A Message From Your DBA YLD Chair

On Saturday, Aug. 3, the DBA YLD Executive Council held its annual strategic planning retreat to plan out its activities for the coming year. The Council welcomed new members Chris Levkulich, Kevin McReynolds and Mo Weiland. This year will feature some exciting new program changes as well as continuation of popular DBA YLD programs like Coffee Talk and Barristers After Hours. The DBA YLD will continue to grow its partnership with the University of Denver Sturm College of Law and expand its Court Orientation program to one and a half days, with the goal of providing more practical and hands-on advice and learning opportunities for new and new to the area attorneys. In addition, the Council is excited to continue implementation of its Practice Area Preview Program, which debuted last spring and was well received by members. The Council sees this as an opportunity to expose members to new practice areas that they may have an interest in and give young attorneys with relevant expertise opportunities to present on their respective practice areas. The Council hopes to receive suggestions from membership as to relevant Practice Area Preview programs; please email any ideas to mlarson@wbklaw.com.

The Council also used the retreat to put the finishing touches on the first ever Bike Social, which was a rousing success on Thursday, Aug. 15. More than 40 DBA YLD members, DBA members and a large contingent of new law students met for an evening of biking on the Platte River Trail followed by a happy hour and networking at Denver Beer Company. The B-Cycle program partnered with the DBA on the Bike Social and provided free bike rentals for those without a bike. The Bike Social attracted the entire spectrum of cyclists from spandex clad regulars to those struggling not to get their suit pants caught in the bike chain.

The Bike Social provided a great start to the year, and the Council looks forward to continuing to bring members traditional, well-known programming as well as fresh ideas over the course of the 2013–14 year.

Best Regards,

Matt Larson
DBA YLD Council Chair
