Denver Bar Association Young Lawyers Division Welcomes 3 New Executive Council Members

The DBA YLD Executive Council is pleased to announce that three new members have been elected to the Executive Council. Below are some details about our new members. They will fill the seats previously held by Sarah Oviatt, Sudee Mirsafian Wright and Jake Eisenstein. Jake served as Chair for 2012–2013. The Executive Council wishes to thank all three of our outgoing members for their hard work and service.

Chris Levkulich is a Colorado native and is proud to be a part of Denver's legal community. Upon graduation from law school, Chris was a trial attorney in the Office of the Colorado State Public Defender. Chris is currently in private practice as a solo practitioner, focusing his practice on criminal defense, civil litigation, and family law. Chris has enjoyed being able to volunteer his time completing income tax returns for low income families, coaching high school mock trial teams, and judging mock trial and appellate advocacy competitions. Chris received his undergraduate degree from Boston College and his law degree from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law.

Kevin McReynolds is an Assistant Attorney General in Colorado’s criminal appellate division. Before this, he clerked for a federal trial judge and spent five years in private practice splitting his time between a national firm in Los Angeles and a small firm in Denver. Kevin moved to Denver after enduring years of poor access to skiing and subpar local breweries in Phoenix, San Antonio and Los Angeles. He married his college/law school girlfriend who stopped practicing law to become a novelist and raise their daughter Emmy (now 3).

Mo Weiland is an associate with Fennemore Craig, P.C. She joined the firm in 2012 after graduating from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, and practices in Fennemore's litigation group. During law school Mo was active with the Student Bar Association, the Public Interest Law Group, and the Vis International Moot Court Team. Mo is an alumnus of Montana State University, where her studies focused on skiing, rafting and hiking (she also earned degrees in philosophy and political science). In her free time Mo enjoys the Colorado mountains, spending time with her boyfriend, Jon, and her dog, Atticus, leisure reading, and bad TV.

In addition, current Executive Council member Beth Mankamyer was elected as Chair-Elect. Beth is an attorney at Benjamin Bain Howard & Cohen, LLC and practices in real estate transactions and corporate law, focusing on real estate development and business formation. Beth represents clients in other related areas, including real estate loans and financing transactions as well as mechanics lien law. In addition, Beth has a specialty in representing dentists and dental practices in entity formation, corporate law and property transactions such as leases. Beth is currently the Secretary of the DBA YLD Executive Council. She graduated from the University of Colorado Law School. While in law school, she was President of the Construction and Real Estate Law Association, Editor-in-Chief of the Colorado Journal of International Environmental Law and Policy, Secretary of the Class of 2009, Event Coordinator of the Women's Law Caucus, and the recipient of the James N. Corbridge Initiative Award.

Matt Larson, Incoming Chair of the DBA YLD Executive Council

Art & Antiquities Law: Owning the Past to Preserve It for the Future
By Julia Rhine
My favorite book growing up was “From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler” by E. L. Konigsburg. Its plot revolves around 12 year old Claudia Kincaid and her adventures running away from home. She is no impetuous young runaway, but rather strategizes her escape for weeks and selects as her refuge the most magical destination she can think of—the Metropolitan Museum of Art. She spends her days sneaking into student group tours to learn more about the museum’s galleries, and at night she is a preservationist’s nightmare, bathing in the fountain, fingering exhibits, and sleeping in a 16th century bed. As the story unfolds, Claudia becomes obsessed with identifying the artist of a certain sculpture of unknown provenance. Read more…

Gettin’ Gig-y With It: The Roundabout Path to a Job in the “New Economy”
By Ruchi Kapoor
Because it is a natural part of the aging process, the Baby Boomers have commenced accusing their own children, the millennials, of being directionless upstarts. As a millennial myself, I am prone to taking umbrage at these types of accusations. We aren’t directionless! We just have short attention spans. Read more…
