Join the YLD Council—Applications Due April 29
The DBA YLD is currently seeking new board members for the Executive Council. The Council consists of 11 members who help serve the Denver legal community and its members. Interested persons should submit their current resume and a letter of interest detailing their relevant experience and characteristics including why these qualities would make them a valuable addition to the Board to Jake Eisenstein.

EPA Regulation: Saving the Renewable Fuels Program

Last summer, news broke that supposed ethanol producers were fraudulently reaping the benefits of Congress's efforts to encourage America's use of renewable fuels through the Renewable Fuels Standard (RFS) Program. The sale of fraudulent renewable fuel credits, known as Renewable Identification Numbers (RINs), was so pervasive that it amounted to roughly 140 million fraudulent credits, or approximately 10% of RINs traded annually. Law Day

Law Day “Realizing the Dream” Contest—Deadline is Friday, April 19
Gain an appreciation for the 2013 Law Day theme, “Realizing the Dream—Equality for All,” by participating in the Law Day contest. Submit art work, short essay, short video, or other recording, while addressing the question: What role should the legal system play in ensuring that Americans protect our national ideal of equality for all?
Attorneys in the DBA Young Lawyers Division, law students at the University of Colorado and University of Denver, and students in 9th through 12th grades in the Denver Public School district are eligible to participate. Email submissions to Heather Clark no later than Friday, April 19. Winners will receive cash prizes and admission to the 2013 Law Day Reception on Thursday, May 2. Learn more.

Barristers After Hours—Thursday, April 18
The DBA YLD invites you to attend Barristers After Hours, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Katie Mullen's. Free drinks and appetizers will be provided. No need to RSVP. Contact Joel Jacobson for more information.

The Components of a Great Appeal—Thursday, April 25
Lindy Frolich will talk about criminal appeals which includes traditional briefing familiar to many attorneys, including standards of review, as well as legal issues and argument. Gina Bischofs will discuss appeals in the dependency and neglect area with its expedited time frames, petitions on appeal, and condensed presentation of issues and legal argument. The increasing utilization of electronic tools and their practical application to appeals will also be explored. One general CLE credit has been applied for. Coffee Talk programs are held every fourth Thursday at 7:30 a.m. at the DBA offices. RSVP online or email lunches@cobar.org.

Young Lawyers Division Law Day Movie Night Featuring “Lincoln”—Wednesday, May 1
Celebrate Law Day with the Denver and Colorado Bar Associations’ Young Lawyer Divisions at the Mayan Theater on May 1, at 5 p.m. Denver District Court Judge John Madden will give a CLE presentation on President Abraham Lincoln, followed by a showing of the 2012 Oscar-winning film, “Lincoln.” One general CLE credit has been applied for. Cost to attend is $15. This event is for members and their significant others only. RSVP online or email lunches@cobar.org.

DBA Young Lawyers Division Law Day Reception—Thursday, May 2
Join the DBA Young Lawyers Division and Vincent E. Morscher, head of the attorney general’s Civil Litigation and Employment Law Department, and Steve Chavez, director of the Colorado Civil Rights Division, for a cocktail reception at The Lobby beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 2. Morscher and Chavez will present briefly on the Law Day theme, “Realizing the Dream: Equality for All.” Admission is free and includes appetizers and two drink tickets. The Legal Center and DBA YLD Team Up for the Colfax Marathon

Social Networking: An Ethical Minefield—Thursday, May 23
As licensed professionals, it is critical to be mindful of responsibilities in interactions with others, including those that occur electronically or via social media. Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, LinkedIn. There may be dangers for lawyers who may be unaware of the interaction between the use of social media and their responsibilities under the Rules of Professional Conduct. 8th Annual Attorney’s Night Out—Thursday, June 27
Join the DBA YLD as they celebrate The Legal Center for People with Disabilities and Older People's protection of the rights of people with disabilities and older people in Colorado since 1976. Event includes a silent auction.
