Pro Bono Week Elder Justice Training—Tuesday, Oct. 23, Noon–2 p.m.
In celebration of Pro Bono Week, the DBA’s Access to Justice Committee will coordinate a CLE for attorneys interested in volunteering with Elder Justice Colorado, or who want to learn more about issues facing Denver’s low-income senior population. EJCO will present a brief history and the importance of elder law, and areas of law often encountered by EJCO volunteers. Two CLE credits available. Cost is $59 for members, $69 for nonmembers, and reduced tuition for those who accept a pro bono case. RSVP to lunches@cobar.org.
Strikes for Tykes—Saturday, Nov. 3
Put on your bowling shoes and join the DBA’s Community Action Network at Strikes for Tykes—a bowling benefit for the Children’s Outreach Project. This event will take place Saturday, Nov. 3, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Elitch Lanes, located at 3826 Tennyson in Denver. Cost is $35 for adults and $20 for children (12 and under). Participate in the Spanish-Speaking Lawyers Committee Survey
The CBA’s Spanish-Speaking Lawyers Committee often fields calls for attorneys in all specialty areas; however, there is no existing database of attorneys with Spanish-speaking skills to assist with these calls. If you or your staff speaks Spanish, please complete this short survey to help identify you as an attorney with Spanish-speaking abilities. Legal Aid Foundation of Colorado Receives $5K from Citywide Banks’ Social Media Contest
The Legal Aid Foundation of Colorado won $5,000 in the Citywide Banks’ Charity Hand-Up Contest after receiving the most votes on Facebook. Citywide Banks hosted the 14-day contest on the social media site, and charities were nominated by Citywide Banks employees. The $5,000 donation will be used for new computers and a network printer for legal aid volunteers to help serve more clients.

Partner With PALS for the 2012–13 School Year
The Democracy Education Committee’s Partner Alliance of Lawyers and Schools program is seeking volunteers or firms to adopt schools for the 2012–13 school year. PALS’ mission is to implement law-related education and volunteers into Denver Public Schools. It’s an organic, flexible program in which the volunteer seeks and fills a specific need at either Hill Middle School or Denver School of Science and Technology–Green Valley Ranch campus.
