Denver Lawyers’ Arts and Literature Contest Winners Announced
The Docket Committee is pleased to announce the winners of its inaugural creative arts contest:
  • In Fiction, the winner is Tarek F.M. Saad for “Are You Going to Answer That?”
  • In Nonfiction, the winner is Charles E. Norton for “An Essay About Mom and Dad.”
  • In Poetry, the winner is Manuel Ramos for “Fool Moon Madness.”
  • In Humor, the winner is Ruchi Kapoor for “Sports Lessons for the Uncoordinated.”
  • In Drawing, the winner is Lynda Knowles for “Due Process.”

Back to School Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers Needed for Mock Congressional Hearings—Wednesday, Oct. 10
Rachel B Noel Middle School, 5290 Kittridge St., Denver, 7:15–9:45 a.m.

Serve on a mock congressional hearing panel as students investigate major concepts of our government and how they relate to their current surroundings and current events. Volunteers will provide feedback on students’ presentations. Training and prep materials are provided. Interested volunteers may contact Michael Grosso at 720-424-0800.
Partner With PALS for the 2012–13 School Year
The Democracy Education Committee’s Partner Alliance of Lawyers and Schools program is seeking volunteers or firms to adopt schools for the 2012–13 school year. PALS’ mission is to implement law-related education and volunteers into Denver Public Schools. It’s an organic, flexible program in which the volunteer seeks and fills a specific need at either Hill Middle School or Denver School of Science and Technology-Green Valley Ranch campus. Help Students at Denver Public Schools Attendance Mediation Workshops
Developed through research-based practices, AMWs target habitually truant middle and high school students by re-engaging them in school. The Colorado Department of Education has awarded Denver Public Schools a $35,000 grant to train and implement AMWs for the 2012–13 school year. DPS and DBA are looking for attorneys to partner with DPS schools for three to five evening commitments throughout the school year.
