*** See videos of your Haiti donations at work, Feb. 19
Colorado's legal community put its money where its heart is — Haiti. More than 500 firms, legal professionals and organizations from all across Colorado raised $110,885 in the wake of the Jan. 12 earthquake and aftershocks in Haiti. DBA members were among the donors in Colorado's legal community who gave approximately $42,000 to American Red Cross, approximately $30,000 to Doctors Without Borders and $38,000 to other organizations. Thank you for your generosity. The Mile High Chapter of the American Red Cross is hosting a thank you session on Feb. 19, from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m., 444 Sherman St., for donors to see videos of the work Red Cross is doing. RSVP asap to Anastasia Darwish adarwish@denver-redcross.org (303) 607-4791.

*** CLE: Preventing Legal Malpractice, Feb. 12
This year’s program focuses on prevention, risk management and resolution. Learn to mitigate the damage when a client grieves you and learn the most recent and noteworthy malpractice case law updates. Register now for the event or the live webcast

*** Discount tickets to Avalanche game, Feb. 12
Watch the Colorado Avalanche compete against the Phoenix Coyotes (Feb. 17 at 7 p.m.) at a discount rate just for DBA members. Upper corner seats are $22 (normally $40) and lower corners and end seats are $50 (normally $102). Click here for tickets.

*** Colorado Supreme Court pro bono recognition achievement for 2009
Did your law firm or in-house counsel group achieve an average of 50 hours per person of pro bono service to help people in need or a nonprofit agency in 2009? If so, e-mail Justice Greg Hobbs at gregory.hobbs@judicial.state.co.us by Monday, Feb. 15, to be recognized for your accomplishment.

*** Learn about protection orders
This day-long training program will cover what you need to know about the protection orders process. Take two pro bono cases and the cost is $35, otherwise cost is $75 (includes lunch). Presented by Denver Access to Justice Committee, Colorado Women’s Bar Association, CBA Family Violence Program, Project Safeguard, and Holland & Hart, on Friday, April 16, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., 555 17th St. 32nd floor. Applied for 7 general and 2 ethics credits. Register here by April 9.

*** Golfers Get Ready
The Henry Hall Memorial Golf Tournament is June 7 at the Lakewood Country Club. Shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. Founded in 1908, this Tom Bendelow and Donald Ross design is one of Colorado's oldest golf courses. True to Ross design characteristics, the course is playable yet challenging for all skill levels. The USGA Course and Slope Ratings are 71.9 and 136. Questions? Contact Alexa Drago at adrago@cobar.org or (303) 824-5313.

*** A few words on Facebook etiquette
Many opinions exist on the professional use of Facebook; we like CLE staffer Alli Gerkman’s take, as featured in The Docket this month. Join DBA’s fan page on Facebook, the DBA group on LinkedIn and start following your association on Twitter. These are all great ways to stay in touch with what is happening in the legal community and at the DBA. Questions? Contact Heather Clark at hclark@cobar.org

*** Books: Dramatically Improve Your Legal Writing Skills
CBA-CLE has resources on hand to help attorneys sharpen their writing skills. “The Attorney Toolkit: Standout Legal Writing Every Time” is one of the most clear, compact and concise guidebooks on legal writing in the country. “A Manual of Style for Contract Drafting” is a great resource for any attorney who drafts, reviews, negotiates or interprets contracts.
