*** Denver Courts prepare for DNC
During the DNC, Aug. 23-30, Denver County Court will have lighter dockets to handle convention-related matters. The Denver courts will be open for emergency issues that arise, such as landlord-tenant or restraining orders, however, no jury trials or civil cases will be set during the week. Judges and magistrates will work extra hours from 8 a.m. to midnight, Saturday, Aug. 23 to Saturday, Aug. 30, to handle DNC related cases. Judges and staff not in court will train and work on court projects. The U.S. District Court and Bankruptcy Court downtown will be open during regular business hours. That week, the Bankruptcy Court will not schedule any on-site hearings or meetings of creditors in Denver, due to possible traffic congestion. Check local media, the City of Denver and DNC Web sites for updated downtown security measures and road closures.

*** Back to school, ready for success – Congrats CAN and volunteers!
Smiles were abundant as more than 300 disadvantaged children and teens last weekend picked up new backpacks, lovingly packed with school supplies. The Community Action Network’s School Supply Drive was a great success! Congrats to the 60 firms who participated, benefiting Denver Public Schools and the Children’s Outreach Project. Thanks to all 55 volunteers who worked Saturday and Sunday – you made a huge difference in many students’ lives! Go to www.denbar.org on Thursday to see a slideshow. Looking forward to next year!

*** Check out the Legal Community Credit Union of Colorado
Forward-thinking Bar members 29 years ago established a credit union to provide financial services to DBA member lawyers, their staff and families. Continuing to offer personalized service and many amenities of typical banks, the Credit Union is located on the 11th floor at 1900 Grant St., in the same building as the DBA offices. For more information, contact a personal representative at (303) 860-1117.

*** Ready For Some Football?
The DBA Lawyers’ Football League begins its 40th year Sunday, Sept. 7. The league welcomes lawyers and law students. Ten teams will be made on a first-come, first-served basis. Interested players are encouraged to attend the league’s preseason meeting at 5 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 28, at Fossum, Mastro, Barnes & Stazzone, 1720 S. Bellaire St., Suite 807. Contact league commissioner Vic Stazzone at (303) 757-4971 or stazzmann@yahoo.com

*** Ethics & Professionalism: "Lawghter" is The Best Medicine
Nationally known speaker Sean Carter combines a healthy dose of substantive legal knowledge and side-splitting humor to create his own special portion of “lawghter.” In this CBA-CLE program, Thursday, Sept. 11, 9 a.m. – 3:45 p.m., you will learn how to avoid the most common ethical pitfalls faced by lawyers. Register online: Ethics & Professionalism: Lawghter is the Best Medicine
