*** Pro Bono Spotlight
Metro Volunteer Lawyers needs an attorney to help a disabled client with a divorce that was filed in Denver County. The case was filed through MVL’s Family Law Court Program and was set for Permanent Orders on Dec. 18, 2007. At this hearing it was discovered that the respondent has a pension and the parties had a long-term marriage. If you are interested in helping this client, contact Patricia Trujillo at patt@denbar.org or (303) 866-9307.

*** Have an Extra Bottle of Wine Lying Around?
The CAN Snow Carnival is looking for silent auction items. The next time you are shopping at one of your local favorite stores or restaurants, consider asking if they would donate an item for this event, which benefits Children’s Outreach Project. All donations must be received by Feb. 4. The Snow Carnival will be Thursday, Feb. 7, at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. Click here for more information on this fun event.

*** Pitch in at Winter Festival
Winter Festival will be Jan. 26, 10:30 a.m.–1 p.m., at the Denver Department of Human Services, 1200 Federal Blvd. This event provides gifts to Denver-area foster children, giving them an opportunity to celebrate the holidays. Donations of new sporting equipment, books, stuffed animals and toys are still needed, and can delivered to the DBA offices, 1900 Grant St., ninth floor. If you have questions or would like to help with the event, contact Kelley Bergelt at kbergelt@irelandstapleton.com or Libby DeBlasio at libbydeblasio@yahoo.com

*** Estate-Planning Basic Skills
If you are interested in developing an estate-planning practice, or want to improve your skills in this area, this multi-day program is for you. In this CBA–CLE program, Feb. 14–15, 8:30–11:50 a.m., respected estate-planning attorneys will show you the best tools to employ in common situations. You are encouraged to bring your Colorado Estate Planning Forms (Orange Book). Register online: Estate Planning Basic Skills

*** Fat Friday Gala
The Colorado Lawyers for the Arts Fat Friday Gala 2008 will be Friday, Jan. 25, 6:30 p.m., at University of Denver's Newman Center for the Performing Arts. The internationally acclaimed Christian McBride Band will headline the event, and guests will enjoy a New Orleans-themed celebration complete with dishes made famous in Bayou Country. More details at www.lawyersforthearts.org.

*** Get Admin. Help and Give Back
Denver’s Office of Economic Development/Youth Services Division has a program that offers subsidized work opportunities for youth. DBA members can take advantage of this program, which will offer general office support at no cost to the firm. Youth placements will provide the firm with administrative resources and young adults the opportunity for on-the-job training and professional skill development. Part-time placements will be available for this spring (March–May) and summer (June–August). The mentored work experience will be entirely funded by Denver’s Youth Employment Program. Other opportunities for providing youth with career exploration experiences and summer employment also are available. For more information, contact Ginger Hecht or Todd Nielsen at (720) 865-5700, or e-mail youthservices@denvergov.org.
