*** The Legal Community Pays Its Respects to Two Past-Presidents
We regret to inform you that DBA Past-President Garth Grissom passed away Dec. 27. We have been told that the family plans no public memorial service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Denver Bar Foundation, 1900 Grant St., Ste. 950, Denver, CO 80203.
Other sad news: CBA Past-President and U.S. District Judge Phillip S. Figa, died at his home on Jan. 4 after a battle with cancer. Services will be this Wednesday, Jan. 9, 1 p.m., at Rodef Shalom, 450 S. Kearney St., in Denver. Obituaries were in The Denver Post and the Rocky Mountain News.

*** Show Off Your Shutterbug Skills
Enter your best snapshot in the Community Action Network’s Photo Contest. The photo contest will be held in connection with CAN's Snow Carnival on Feb. 7 at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. Entries are due by Jan. 25; entry fee is $5 per photo. Photos will be judged on artistry and adherence to the theme of "Childhood Challenges and Changes." Two top prizes of $250, one in the adult division and one in the children’s division (12 & under), will be given. Second-place and third-place prizes will be awarded in each category. Winning photographs will be displayed at the Snow Carnival and published in The Docket. Contact Jacqueline Ensminger, je_minger@hotmail.com, for more information.

The DBA Awards Committee needs your help! Send in your nominations for the following awards: DBA Award of Merit, DBA Volunteer Lawyer of the Year, DBA Young Lawyer of the Year, and Judicial Excellence. Please submit a brief statement (e-mail preferred) with the name, award and summary of why that person deserves the honor to Stacy Chesney, schesney@cobar.org. Nominations are due Jan. 15. *** Snow Carnival — Fun for All Ages!
Support Children’s Outreach Project at this year’s Snow Carnival on Thursday, Feb. 7, 6–9 p.m., at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. Adults can bid on great items at the silent auction, enter the raffle to win roundtrip airline tickets for two on Frontier or $250 in cash; enjoy an array of fun foods and drink options; view the photographs from the Photo Contest; watch two free IMAX movie showings; and tour the Gems and Minerals, and Space Odyssey exhibits. Kids can enjoy tasty foods like chicken fingers and a sundae bar, as well as face-painting, an animal balloonist, a magic show, and many more fun activities!
