Metro Volunteer Lawyers needs an attorney to help an elderly client who has a problem with a contractor. The contractor poured a driveway for the client which started to crack within six months. The client has tried to contact the contractor for three months, leaving messages that have not been returned. Volunteer attorneys, judges and paralegals are needed to judge mock congressional hearings at several schools across the Denver area for the “We The People” class curriculum. *** 2007 Fall Estate-Planning Update
Fall Estate-Planning is back and is better than ever. This CBA–CLE program, Nov. 9, 9 a.m.–4:10 p.m., gives you practical and timely guidance on topics such as gift taxes and the family LLP or LLC, how to advise clients when the future of the federal estate tax laws is uncertain, trust beneficiary reporting and accounting, and more. *** Feeling Up for Some Competition?
Enter your best snapshot in the Community Action Network’s Photo Contest. The photo contest will be held in connection with CAN's Snow Carnival on Feb. 7 at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. Entries are due by Jan. 25. Entry fee is $5 per photo. Entries will be judged on artistry and adherence to the theme of "Childhood Challenges and Changes." Two top prizes of $250, one in the adult division and one in the children’s division (12 & under), will be given. Second-place and third-place prizes will be awarded in each category. Winning photographs will be displayed at the Snow Carnival and they will be published in The Docket. Contact Jacqueline Ensminger,, for more information.    

*** You’re Invited: Denver ATJ Hearing 
The Access to Justice Committee is sponsoring a hearing in Denver to determine the civil legal needs of low-income individuals in the community on Nov. 14, 3:30–5:30 p.m., at the Supreme Court Courtroom, 2 E. 14th Ave., fifth floor. The hearing will include Colorado Supreme Court Chief Justice Mary Mullarkey and Denver County Court Presiding Judge Andrew Armatas, as well as legal services clients and service providers, legislators, and other members of the legal community. There will be a reception after the hearing, so RSVP to Carolyn Gravit at if you will be attending.

*** Veteran’s Day
All military veterans are invited to the annual, informal, Dutch-treat luncheon on Nov. 9 to honor those who have served. The gathering will take place at the Breckenridge Brewery, 471 Kalamath St. RSVP to Alan Friedberg, No speeches, no parades, no ceremonies; just an opportunity to mingle with fellow vets to recognize Veteran’s Day.
