UPS had an OOPS! Membership cards destroyed

Blank CBA membership cards are flying in the middle of a highway somewhere in the state (the truck they were on was involved in an accident). Good news: the truck driver is okay. Bad news: the membership cards will be delayed in getting to our members. We are doing what we can to expedite their replacement. In the meantime, if you need to know your membership number, contact the CBA front desk at (303) 860-1115. As always, we appreciate your membership and, in this instance, your patience!

Transitions Committee: Oh, the places you’ll go, Wednesday, Oct. 13

Volunteering is a daring way to savor the world. You are "transitioning," with a life-time accumulation of useful experience and a well-honed brain. You know there’s a “dance in the old girl/boy yet.” Volunteering provides you with an extraordinarily exciting menu of possibilities. Take two weeks and go to Cote d’Ivoire to build a home with Habitat for Humanity; spend two years with Peace Corps in Mongolia or Eastern Europe or Africa; invest a day a week working in Denver. Join Rotary, or another service club, and choose among the rich array of service opportunities in the U.S. and abroad. Learn more about these opportunities on Wednesday, Oct. 13, at 4:30 p.m. at the DBA offices, 1900 Grant St., Suite 900. Cost is $10 for members, $15 for nonmembers. One CLE credit applied for. To register, e-mail lunches@cobar.org or call (303) 861-1115, ext. 727.

Do You Know a “Six of the Greatest?”

The CBA Awards Committee is seeking nominations of individuals to be featured in the 2011 “Six of the Greatest” feature in The Colorado Lawyer. Nominees should be attorneys who exemplified the high ideals of the legal profession, made significant contributions to the CBA, were of aid and assistance to other lawyers, were active in civic and community affairs, were instrumental in accomplishing significant changes in the law, promoted public confidence in the legal profession, or were otherwise notable in their careers. Candidates must have been deceased for at least 10 years. Send nominations to tracyr@cobar.org. Nominations should discuss why the nominee should be profiled and need not be formal.

Question of the Month: How do you manage stress?

Send your response to leonamartinez@cobar.org, using the subject line “Q of the Month.” All CBA members can respond to these questions related to lawyers, the law, and the legal profession. Previous questions and responses also can be found on “The Learned Lawyer.”
