Briefs ![]() October is Professionalism Month Colorado Supreme Court Chief Justice Michael Bender, with the support of the Colorado Bar Association, has declared October as Legal Professionalism Month in Colorado. The aim of the month is to encourage members of the legal profession, professional entities, and judicial officers and staff to rededicate themselves to demonstrating the highest standards of professionalism and integrity and promote public confidence in the profession and the court system. Denver events include John Gleason’s Coffee Talk from 7:30 to 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 23, at DBA offices, 1900 Grant St., Suite 900. The Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel’s Gleason will present on professionalism and his experiences as a special prosecutor in Maricopa County, Ariz. Please RSVP to lunches@cobar.org. To commemorate the month, the Colorado Supreme Court will hold an assembly of lawyers on Monday, Oct. 29, and a special session of the Court to welcome newly admitted attorneys to the practice. Celebrate Pro Bono Week with the DBA The DBA’s Access to Justice Committee will be participating in the celebration of Pro Bono Week (Oct. 22-26) by coordinating a continuing legal education class presented by Elder Justice Colorado on Oct. 23 at noon. This class will be offered at a reduced price to lawyers who agree to volunteer for Elder Justice Colorado. Denver’s Pro Bono Week also will feature CLE classes provided by the Metro Volunteer Lawyers and the Legal Center for People with Disabilities and Older People. DBA Seniors to Roast Chuck Berga Oct. 22 The DBA Seniors Committee will roast Chuck Brega on Monday, Oct. 22, at the University Club, 1673 Sherman St. Cocktails will be served starting at 5:15 p.m., with dinner to follow. Serving the Moderate Income Client Many middle and low-income people would like the assistance of a lawyers for their legal matters. This CLE on Tuesday, Oct. 9, will provide information on the pros and cons of incorporating “modest means” representation into a law practice. Issues to be addressed include screening clients, setting client expectations, cost-cutting measures, limited scope representation, setting the fee, and managing malpractice exposure. DBA YLS Hosts Law Suit Days From 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 10 and 11, the DBA Young Lawyers Division will accept donations of gently used professional clothing, shoes, and accessories on the steps of the Denver City and County Building. Clothing should be clean and on hangers. The DBA YLD will not be able to pick up donations and cannot accept donations on other dates. Gear Up for Lawyers' League Basketball The Lawyers Basketball League will kick off its 2013 season in January, and it is anticipated that it will be held at the University of Denver Hamilton Gym. The expected team entry fee will range from $650 to $750.
