The University of Denver Sturm College of Law has named its Law Stars recipients for 2011. They will be honored at a gala event on Sept. 21 at the Hyatt Regency Denver at the Colorado Convention Center. Receiving awards this year are: Howard Kenison, JD’72, Outstanding Alumni Award; Charles “Chuck” Goldberg, JD’64, Alumni Professionalism Award; Terrance Carroll, JD’05, Bruce B. Johnson Outstanding Young Alumni Award; and Alan Chen, Robert B. Yegge Excellence in Teaching Award.

The Colorado School of Mines Board of Trustees recently elected trustee James Spaanstra to serve as chair of the board through Dec. 31, 2012.

Spaanstra, who initially was appointed to the board of trustees in 2008, is a partner in the law firm of Faegre & Benson LLP. He has been in private practice for more than 30 years.

Cynthia E. Wellbrock of The Law Office of Cynthia E. Wellbrock recently was appointed to the Board for Adoption Alliance, a nonprofit agency that prepares families for the joys and challenges of parenting adopted and foster children through awareness, education, partnerships, and placement services. As a board member, Wellbrock will contribute to the strategic direction of the organization and solicit contributions to its mission.

 

Gordon & Rees has appointed Denver Partner Franz Hardy to serve as chair of the firm’s national Diversity Committee. In 2004, Gordon & Rees created a Diversity Committee to further support and promote diversity efforts within the firm, the legal profession, and the community at large.

Denver Attorney Eugene F. Megyesy, Jr., has been appointed to serve as the senior advisor to Viktor Orban, the Prime Minister of Hungary.

Megyesy will advise on foreign relations, nonprofit/charitable activities, and will office in the Hungarian Parliament building in Budapest.

Emily Droll, an associate at the law firm of Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck, was elected recently to the Arts Street Board of Directors. As a board member, Droll will help foster and grow the mission and reach of the organization. Her background in the arts yielded a strong connection to the organization, primarily its mission of bringing access to the arts to underserved youth.

Heather E. Schell, an associate at the law firm of Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck, was recently appointed to the Sense of Security Board of Directors. As a board member, Schell will help the organization advance its mission to provide assistance for Colorado breast cancer patients in treatment.

The American College of Bankruptcy announced Tuesday that Caroline Fuller, Director at Fairfield and Woods, P.C., was inducted as a Fellow of the College on March 18 in Washington, D.C.

Fuller is one of 40 nominees from the United States and abroad to be inducted in the 22nd Class of College Fellows. All are being honored and recognized for their professional excellence and exceptional contributions to the fields of bankruptcy and insolvency.

Nicole R. Ament, a shareholder at the law firm of Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck, was recently named chair of the Board of Directors for the South Metro Denver Chamber of Commerce. As chair, Ament will counsel the board as they strive to evolve and enhance the local business community.
