Dedication to Diversity Honored

Two attorneys and a law firm were recognized for their dedication to diversity in their field by the Diversity in the Legal Profession Committee on Sept. 23. Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck was recognized with the Qwest Diversity Leadership Award and Qwest Chief Administrative Officer and General Counsel Rich Baer and Xcel Energy Vice President and General Counsel Michael Connelly were each recognized with the Qwest Diversity Trailblazer Award. Metro Volunteer Lawyers Recieves $7,500

Metro Volunteer Lawyers received a grant from the Fred and Jean Allegretti Foundation on Oct. 14. The $7,500 grant was presented by Kimberly Allegretti (center), of Wood Ris & Hames PC, to MVL Executive Director Dianne Van Voorhees (right) and DBA President Stacy Carpenter (left). MVL provides pro bono and low-cost legal assistance to those who qualify based on income. 

 


Celebrating New Law Stars

DU Law Stars is the Sturm College of Law’s premiere fundraising event, benefiting the Student Law Office and the Law Stars Scholarship Fund. It also reunites alumni each year. Drawing approximately 650 people, this year’s celebration was held at the Hyatt Regency Denver at Colorado Convention Center on Sept. 16. The event raised an estimated $30,000. DU Law Stars honorees enjoy their newly awarded chairs, each with a DU medallion and a personalized brass plate.  Lucy Marsh was honored with the Robert B. Yegge Excellence in Teaching Award; John Baker was honored with the Alumni Professionalism Award; and Fay Matsukage was honored with the Outstanding Alumni Award.

Barristers Mix After Hours

The DBA’s Young Lawyer’s Division hosted its monthly Barristers After Hours mixer at Prime Bar on Sept. 16. This kicked off the first Barristers After Hours event of the new YLD year. Photos by Sudee Wright.
