Sherman & Howard announces that Glenn Schlabs has been awarded the Colorado Public Health Association’s Sabin Award. The award, established in 1947 and given yearly, recognizes achievement in public health, honoring the outstanding leadership of Dr. Florence Sabin in the promotion of better public health in Colorado.

Sherman & Howard attorney Peter G. Koclanes has been elected president of the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association. He is a member of Sherman & Howard’s Litigation Practice Group.

Becky Byeand James Rufus Garts, III were married on Oct. 9 at Red Rocks Amphitheater and Park.  Bye is a 2005 graduate of the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, a member and past chair of The Docket Committee, and the current chair of the CBA Young Lawyers Division.  She works as legal counsel for the U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. Garts is a 2002 graduate of the Samford University Cumberland School of Law. He is the immediate past chair of the CBA Young Lawyers Division and is an associate at Pelegrin & Radeff, PC.

Menzies

David J. Menzies, a well-known Denver criminal defense attorney and longtime Denver resident, died on Aug. 21. He was 70.

Menzies was born and educated in Kansas, but started his legal career with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and would later serve as a prosecutor for the Arapahoe County District Attorney’s Office.
