Drawing on an old Hollywood theme, the Barristers Benefit Ball will once again cast a spotlight on the importance of Metro Volunteer Lawyers in the Denver metro community. Every day, MVL handles some of the most difficult and personal cases for an extremely underserved population — low income and indigent clients.

Within the Old Hollywood theme, party patrons will celebrate great citizen lawyers, as led by DBA President John Baker and Metro Volunteer Lawyers, the DBA’s pro bono legal service program, epitomizes these citizen lawyer virtues with each case it handles.

With little notice, MVL provides skilled legal services to those who could not otherwise afford legal counsel. In addition to a great night with colleagues and friends, the Barristers Ball is the single largest source of funding for MVL’s challenging and necessary work. Denver area lawyers support is essential to MVL’s continued success.

Citizen lawyers are judges, private lawyers, legal educators, and public officials who have willingly shared their time, skill, and talents to promote the common good in their communities. At one time or another, each has sacrificed self-interest in favor of the public good. Their work in the law is not just a way to make a living—it is a "calling." — John Baker
