Wake Up and Help the Denver Rescue Mission by Leigh Anderson ![]() Cock-a-doodle-do! Are you looking for a great reason to get out of bed before dawn? Look no further than the Denver Rescue Mission Volunteer Breakfast.
West and Lawrence Street in downtown Denver, just blocks from many of Denver’s law firms. I am an attorney with Spies, Powers, & Robinson, and was in search of a volunteer activity that could involve all members of my firm, from shareholders to legal assistants. In the spring of 2008, I learned about the volunteer breakfast opportunities at the Lawrence Street Shelter. Within a few days, I had eight employees signed up to serve breakfast at the Shelter, which was no small feat, considering the shift started at 5:30 a.m. After a quick cup of coffee, everyone was energized and ready to serve. The Spies, Powers, Robinson volunteers met the amazing kitchen staff members at the Lawrence Street Shelter, who were grateful for our help serving pancakes, oatmeal, doughnuts and coffee to more than 200 people. The hour-and-a-half breakfast period flew by, and before we knew it, we were hanging up our aprons and on our way. Since then, I have organized a volunteer group from my firm to serve breakfast at the Lawrence Street Shelter three times. Everyone who participates leaves the Shelter with great memories and a genuine sense of community. I encourage Denver area attorneys and law firms to organize a group of volunteers to serve breakfast at the Lawrence Street Shelter. The Shelter is in the neighborhood, and your shift is over by 7:15 a.m., which leaves plenty of time for a delicious breakfast at Snooze (or a quick nap) before the office doors open! If your firm or organization is interested, please visit www.denverrescuemission.org for more information and to schedule a volunteer breakfast shift. Back | ||||||||
