The CBA Paralegal Committee is accepting nominations for its annual Pro Bono Paralegal of the Year award. Nominees should be dedicated to assisting in delivering pro bono legal services to members of the community who otherwise could not afford to seek legal assistance. The award is not based on the number of people to whom pro bono services are offered or the number of hours volunteered; rather, the award is designed to acknowledge a paralegal’s dedication and motivation. To nominate a paralegal, visit http://www.cobar.org and click on "Seeking Nominations: Pro Bono Paralegal of the Year."
Those interested in attending the award ceremony, at Maggiano’s Little Italy on Sept. 27, should contact Michelle Gersic at (303) 824-4342 or mgersic@cobar.org.
The CBA/DBA helped to support travel costs for the Denver East High School Constitutional Scholars team of 28 juniors and seniors. The team won the national championship of the "We the People" competition held April 28–30 in Washington, D.C.
The team first won the regional competition in November and then the state tournament in December making them eligible to represent Colorado in the national competition.
East High has had a strong Constitutional Scholars program and often has finished in the top 10 of the national competition. A year ago, the East High team finished third. This is the first time since 1992 that East High has won the championship.
This was the 20th anniversary of the We the People program, which is sponsored by the D.C.-based Center for Civic Education (http://www.CivicEd.org).
If you would like to volunteer for the We the People competition, contact Carolyn Gravit at (303) 824-5323 or cgravit@cobar.org.
The DBA Annual Awards Party was Wednesday, June 6, at the Denver Public Library. Attendees enjoyed free food and drink, and mingled and networked with other members.
