Judge John Coughlin received the Judicial Excellence Award from former DBA president Mary Jo Gross at the Board of Trustees meeting Sept. 8. Coughlin was unable to attend the annual party where the awards were given. 
Referenda C&D Debate
Speaker of the House Andrew Romanoff and President of the Independence Institute Jon Caldara faced off in a heated debate over Referenda C&D at a TAB program on Oct. 6.

Donate for a Donut
On Sept. 14 and 21 the DBA collected 30 coats for Veteran’s Stand Down, which will be on Nov. 10. Each year, Denver Bar Association attorney members staff a table at the Veteran’s Stand Down to answer the homeless vets’ legal questions about child support, family law and landlord/tenant issues.
Karen Mathis Reception
DBA President Chris Little and Connie Peterson congratulated Karen Mathis on her ABA presidency for the 2006–2007 year. A reception in her honor was held at the DBA office on Sept. 13.
Paralegal of the Year

Lynette M. Luhnow is the recipient of the Pro Bono Paralegal of the Year Award for her work at the Arapahoe County District Court Pro Se Clinic. She has volunteered her legal services on a monthly or semimonthly basis at the pro se clinic on Friday mornings for the last two years. Each year, the award recipient is presented with a $1,000 check to give to the pro bono organization of choice. Luhnow will donate her check to Advocates for Children, a Colorado Court Appointed Special Advocates project.

DU Law Stars Dinner
On Sept. 22, approximately 800 people
attended the 2005 DU Law Stars celebration, which grossed more than $201,000. Profits from Law Stars support the Law Stars Scholarship Fund and the Student Law Office.
