You Be the Judge

WANTED: Committee members to serve as mediators and arbitrators for clients and lawyers to resolve legal fee disputes. For non-lawyers this is an opportunity to serve the community and get a rare behind-the-scenes view of the business aspects of the legal profession. For lawyers, it is an opportunity to learn how to avoid pitfalls of payment.

Q: What’s the committment?

A: Participate on an arbitration panel once or twice a year for a couple of hours;
attend semi-regular monthly meetings to review other panel recommendations.

Court Orientation

Court Orientation is Thursday, Nov. 17, 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m., for attorneys new and old who want to learn more about the rules and procedures of domestic relations, civil cases, and the Denver District and County Courts. Judges also will give tips about their courtrooms. Meet at the Denver City and County Building, 1437 Bannock, in the jury assembly room. Cost includes lunch: $38 for DBA members and $48 for non-members. Make checks payable to the DBA, Court Orientation, 1900 Grant St., Ste 900, Denver, CO 80203. CLE credits applied for. Katrina Donations
CBA/DBA Executive Director Chuck Turner went on 630 KHOW on Sept. 14 with Darrell Luebbee, Dan Caplis, and Craig Silverman, to donate approximately $45,000 from the bar associations. They were broadcasting from the Denver Press Club. Check page 15 for more information on how locals have contributed to hurricane relief efforts.
