June 21, 2000

Join us for our annual meeting (or party as we like to call it). Enjoy free food and drink with your colleagues and applaud the Denver Bar Association's award recipients. The party's at the Colorado History Museum, 1300 Broadway, at 5:30 p.m.

This year's award recipients are: Steve Choquette, Award of Merit; Steve Collins, Volunteer Lawyer of the Year; Darla Benford, Legal Assistant of the Year; Tom Kelley, Liberty Bell Award; Karen Abbott, David Brofman Award; Gordon Heaton, Teacher of the Year; Jim Mair, Peace Officer of the Year; District Judge J. Stephen Phillips and County Judge Aleene Ortiz-White, Judicial Excellence Award.

Special this year is the Frontier Justice Award, honoring our favorite pugilists Frank Moya and Russell Stone. These heros made headlines when they took the initiative to defend people in danger. We are proud of them.

Celebration of Excellence

The Celebration of Excellence is a graduation ceremony and reception to honor Colorado foster children who have overcome tremendous odds to graduate from high school or obtain a GED. Join the DBA YLD, state of Colorado and Arapahoe County YLD on June 5 at the Tivoli Center, Auraria Campus, at 6 p.m. to celebrate the accomplishments of these young adults. This is truly an evening to remember. Call Laura Embleton at (303) 824-5369 for more information.

Annual Ethics Luncheon

Multidisciplinary Practice, or MDP, is a kind of "one-stop shopping," where clients would receive attorney services, financial planning, accounting, etc. in the same facility from one firm. Learn more about this coming trend and its implications for Denver attorneys at the YLD Annual Ethics Luncheon on Wednesday, May 10, at 11:30 a.m. It takes place at the Denver Athletic Club, 1325 Glenarm Place. Bob Keatinge of Holland & Hart and DBA President-Elect Susan Smith Fisher will tell you what Multidisciplinary Practice could mean for Colorado. The program is $25 and worth two ethics cle credits.
