YLD Christmas in January
The DBA Young Lawyers Division had another successful "Christmas in January" event on Jan. 26. More than 300 foster children, 12 years old and younger, enjoyed a morning of free presents, pictures with Santa and a pizza party in their honor. Thank you to all who volunteered time and sponsored this event.
YLD "Barristers After Hours"
Come on down to the Rock Bottom Brewery on the 16th Street Mall on Thursday, March 21, from 5:30-7:30 p.m., for the monthly YLD "Barristers After Hours." Bring a carpentry tool, work gloves, face masks, or other accessories of the sort, to be donated to Neighborhood Partners, a local organization that restores and builds homes for the less fortunate. Join us for free drinks, hors d’oeuvres and a great game of pool. Contact Megan Brynhildsen at email@example.com or David Woodruff at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information. The DBA YLD hosts a monthly "After Hours" on the third Thursday of each month. Mark your calendar and plan to join in the fun.
Lend a Helping Hand
On March 23, the DBA YLD will be helping Neighborhood Partners. No special carpentry skills are required! It’s a great way to get a little exercise and help the community. Contact Tamatha Blase at (303) 221-2715 by March 7 to sign up.

New This Year: The Firm Auction
This year, the ball will have a "Firm Auction" to benefit MVL. No, we don’t want you to auction off your highest billing partner, or your office furniture . . . we want you to fill a basket with items donated by your firm. You know, those gift certificates your client gave you in trade; the "interesting" painting abandoned by a retiring partner; the time share your overworked litigator will have to cough up. We want the kinds of things you can’t (or maybe don’t want to) use.
Firm baskets will be displayed at the ball. Ribbons will be awarded based on content, theme, creativity, and hilarity (among other things), and then the baskets will be auctioned off to the highest bidder. Call Marisa Williams at (303) 220-0303 to reserve a place for your firm’s basket.
Denver District Court Chief Judge Stephen Phillips presided over Term Day on Jan. 8 when employees were honored for their service and dedication. This is also the day when the judges change offices.
Your Photo Here
The Docket is changing its look to provide more pictures of DBA members, but we need your help! Please send us photos of your firm openings, receptions, committee events and any occasion where you find yourself surrounded by lawyers. Please send us your labeled pictures; we promise to return them promptly. Mail them to The Docket, 1900 Grant St., Suite 900, Denver, CO 80203.
Roll out the Barrels Food Drive
$1 donation equals $16 in meals for Colorado’s homeless
Look in your firm’s lobby for a collection barrel where you can donate nonperishable food items (or make a cash donation). You can also donate at the DBA, 1900 Grant St., Suite 900. The DBA will donate the food and money to the Food Bank of the Rockies. In years past, the DBA has gathered thousands of pounds of food. Let’s do it again!
Just to make things a litte more interesting: a competition among firms . . .
The firm that donates the most food, in each firm-size category, will be recognized on a plaque to be displayed at the Denver Bar Association offices. The categories are: 151+ employees, 101-150 employees, 61-100 employees, 21-60 firm employees and 1-20 firm employees. Feel free to pass this challenge along to your friends at other firms.
E-mail Kathy Bogannam at email@example.com to host a barrel or to find out more.
