Court Orientation is an all-day program on Thursday, Nov. 20 for recently admitted and not-so-new attorneys wanting to learn more about the rules and procedures of domestic relations, civil cases, and the Denver District and County Courts. Judges will also give tips about their courtrooms. The program is sponsored by the DBA and DBA YLD and is from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. in the Jury Assembly Room in the Denver City and County Building, 1437 Bannock. The cost, including lunch, is $38 to DBA members, or $48 for nonmembers, payable to the DBA.

‘Legal Night at the Center’ CLE
To thank the volunteers who have given their time and expertise to the Legal Night at the Center, the DBA YLD is hosting a free CLE, “Legal Night at the Center: Practical Tips for the Pro Bono Attorney,” on Wednesday, Dec. 3, from 4-7 p.m. at 1900 Grant St., ninth floor (three general credits, including one ethics are anticipated). The DBA YLD offers this CLE free to those who volunteer AND to those who agree to volunteer at Legal Night once during the upcoming year. Legal Night is held the third Tuesday each month, from 5:30-8 p.m., when attorneys and paralegals provide legal information to the community. The CLE will provide some practical advice regarding pro bono services, ethics, landlord/tenant, and immigration issues. Christmas in January is now the Winter Festival! Winter Festival is a great event to spread some holiday cheer to Denver’s foster children. We are looking for former and new volunteers to help us out! For more information, contact Megan Brynhildsen at email@example.com.
The 2004 High School Mock Trial program registrations are being accepted and Denver County teams are needed to participate.
The early registration deadline is Dec. 1 ($75). Final registration deadline is Jan. 1 ($150). The mock trial case study is available at www.cobar.org. Tournaments are on Feb. 20-21 and March 5-6.
Volunteers are still needed in many capacities: Coach or co-coach a team with a teacher coach between November and March; adjudicate mock trial rounds (some litigation experience required); staff a courtroom during mock trial rounds, train scoring panelists, monitor the gallery, and assist the presiding judge as necessary.
